The Big City, also known as Life in the Big City in PAL regions, is the 5th level in Ape Escape 3.

Appearance

The Big City is a bustling urban area with monkeys racing each other down the road, a cinema, a football stadium, and a bank. The speedy Blue Pants Monkeys are introduced here.

Trivia

• The black and white film playing at the cinema, as well as the monkey that stars in it, are references to Charlie Chaplin, one of the most prominent actors and comedians of the silent film era. The North American version calls this monkey Ukkilun, and the mustache, bowler hat, suit, and cane are reminiscent of Chaplin's character, "The Tramp".
  • The European version of Ape Escape 3 calls this monkey Buster Ooki, a reference to Buster Keaton, who was another comedy actor from the same era and friend of Charlie Chaplin. Buster Ooki's description "The Great Stone Face" was Keaton's nickname.
  • While Ukkilun's resemblance to Chaplin is mostly accurate, the mustache here is bushy instead of short, and the addition of the beard is new.
• Ukki Nader, a reference to The Terminator, appears after beating Specter for the first time. Aside from the four monkeys in each stage's hidden room, this is the only monkey that has this behavior.
• Ookie Man is a parody of Superman, and the way he starts in a business suit and changes into superhero costume as he flies out of the phone booth is a reference to Clark Kent transforming into Superman.
• The mural next to the Monkey Theater contains many monkeys from Ape Escape 3 and some from Ape Escape 2.
