The Slingback Shooter, also known as the Catapult or Slingshot in some European releases and the Pachinga (パチンガー) in Japan, is a recurring gadget in the Ape Escape series. While normally used to hit switches from a distance, it can also be used to stun Pipo Monkeys, hit enemies and even boxes in some instances. To use, the player must pull back the right control stick (R button for On the Loose) then use the cross hairs to aim for the destination.
When trying to get a moving target, it's best to pick a spot before the target. As you see the target approach, shoot it.
The Slingback Shooter has 3 types of bullets:
- Normal Ammo: This is an unlimited supply, the weakest type.
- Explosive Pellets: Like bombs, but work like Normal Ammo. Must be aimed properly in order to be effective.
- Guided Pellets: Shoots off 3 at once and guide themselves to the target as long as they are aimed near it.
Explosive and Guided Pellets can be collecting during levels. In Time Attack modes, all types will have unlimited supply. In Ape Escape 3, they can also be purchased at the store.
Appearance[]
The Slingback Shooter in Ape Escape was simply a yellow slingshot.
In Ape Escape 2, the Slingback Shooter is now a yellow slingshot with a silver handle and gold piece on the bottom. In the center is a teal gem shaped piece, most likely the cross hair projection device. The band for the Slingback Shooter is orange.
In Ape Escape 3, the silver handle is now colored blue and the band is now reddish in color. While Kei's resembles a normal one, Yumi's center piece is heart shaped.
In PlayStation Move Ape Escape, the Slingshot has gotten a complete makeover. The Slingshot is now a metallic blue slingshot with a brown and black rubber handle and the rod is silver. The band for the Slingshot is now a grey string.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale[]
Spike uses the Slingback Shooter in his Up+Triangle move. Pressing Up+Triangle will cause Spike to shoot, and holding down Triangle on the ground will charge the move. However, the Slingback Shooter in PSASBR cannot be aimed, and can only be fired in an upper-right angle.
