Roy Campbell (ロイ・キャンベル, Roi Kyanberu) is a major character in the Metal Gear series.
In Metal Gear, he was a former U.S. Army colonel in command of special forces group FOXHOUND, who later worked for an advisory body under the UN Security Council to monitor PMC activities. Campbell was a close friend of Solid Snake, and the biological father of Meryl Silverburgh.
In the Ape Escape series, he is somewhat of a recurring character.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Snake Vs. Monkey)[]
Snake is called in by Roy Campbell on his day off for an "important mission". Thinking it was to destroy another Metal Gear he joined in, but was quickly informed that he'd be catching Monkeys. Although he was upset at this, he decided to do it.
Ape Escape 3[]
Mesal Gear Solid: Snake Escape[]
In Mesal Gear Solid: Snake Escape, Roy Campbell tasked Snake to destroy Mesal Gear. Unfortunately, Snake was captured by the monkeys and used for ransom. The monkeys wanted 1 Billion Bananas or they would fire Mesal Gear onto the world. With no one else to turn to, Campbell called the Professor and requested the assistance of Spike, Jimmy, Kei, and Yumi to stop Mesal Gear. To his bad luck, they were at a summer camp and unable to help. So they gave a Pipo Monkey the combat knowledge of Snake, and created Pipo Snake as a result.
Trivia[]
- In the Japanese versions, Takeshi Aono voiced Campbell in most of his appearances while Toshio Furukawa voiced Campbell in Portable Ops.
- Aono and Furukawa previously worked together for two versions of the same character in the Dragon Ball anime, where the former voiced King Piccolo and the latter voiced his son/reincarnation, Piccolo Jr.
- Due to Campbell's Japanese voice actor Takeshi Aono's death in April 2012, Hideo Kojima tweeted that Campbell will not be present in any future Metal Gear games out of respect for the late Aono.
