Rock Monkeys are enemies that appear in Ape Escape.
Appearance[]
The Rock Monkeys appear as crudely-carved stone sculptures shaped to resemble the Monkeys. They lack any limbs and thus move by skipping across the ground. While awake they reveal a pair of red gleaming eyes.
Strategy[]
Rock Monkeys blend in with the stage to catch intruders off guard. When Spike is in front of their range, they'll lunge forward to tackle him and then head back to their position regardless of whether they were successful in hitting the player or not. While they're dormant, they become invincible, not even the Magic Punch being able to hurt them in this state, meaning you have to make them move in order to eliminate them.
In the first visit to Dark Ruins the only viable strategy to defeat them is double jump right in front of them to trigger their charge and then quickly strike with the Stun Club, either by spinning it or using a Hip Drop. If you got hit by it, you can still defeat them as they regain their place, since they delay a few seconds in returning to sleep. In further playthroughs you can set the R.C. Car in front of them, so when they lunge forward the Car can explode and defeat them instantly.
