Robochimp

The Robochimp is an enemy that appears in Ape Escape.

Appearance[]

The Robochimp is a four-limbed, manually-operated mecha with a sky blue chassis and pale yellow details on its arms, chest and feet. It has red flickers in its front, Specter's emblem painted on the sides of the cockpit and a blue tinted windshield that allows one to see its monkey pilot inside. Its back is equipped with a pair of cylindrical gray tanks that are used as batteries to power itself and rush with a burst of flames.

Strategy[]

Robochimps hide behind a wall of boxes within the factory. When Spike is near them, they burst out from their hiding spot aiming to tackle Spike with its rush. Afterwards, depending on Spike's distance from it, the Robochimp will opt to use either of three attacks. If Spike is near it, it'll create a magnetic forcefield to hold him and then hit the monkey catcher with the remaining arm. If Spike is at a medium distance, it'll try to tackle him with a charge. And if Spike is too far away from its reach, it'll leap on the air and try to stomp on Spike, creating a shockwave on the ground upon landing.

When you face Robochimps, make sure to always have the Super Hoop and the Sky Flyer equipped. If you get captured by the Robochimp, quickly use the Sky Flyer to avoid damage and try to strike its back if possible. When it's about to rush after you, the best bet would be to escape upwards with the Flyer, but if you consider it too risky to time the precise moment, use the Super Hoop instead, being careful to not fall off the ledges. And if it leaps to the air, quickly rush away from the shadow it projects on the ground and make sure to jump to avoid the shockwave.

The only way to destroy a Robochimp is by hitting the tanks on its back with the Stun Club. Each time you do this, the mecha will always jump in the air and try to flatten you, so make sure to move out of the way in time. It takes 5 hits to take down the Robochimp. When defeated, Robochimps grant the player with a handful of Energy Chips and an extra life. With its weapon destroyed, the defeated monkey will stay dizzy on the spot, allowing Spike to capture it without further resistance.
