Primordial Ooze, known in Europe as Raining Lake, and in Japan as Splish-Splash Pond (ちゃぷちゃぷいけ), is the 2nd level in Ape Escape and Ape Escape: On the Loose. It is also the 2nd level in The Lost Land era.
Description[]
On a rainy day, Spike is bound to catch 4 monkeys on a small swampy area. A Plesiosaur is wandering in the water, and monkeys admire the water droplets or go for a swim themselves. Here Spike is given the Water Net to cross the extensive bodies of water and catch the monkeys found in there.
Walkthrough[]
Go Catch the Monkeys![]
The stage is in essence, a medium-sized valley that's mostly sunk on water. Because of this Spike is introduced to the Water Net to allow him to cross the water-filled cliffs. Monkeys can be found mostly on ground level and some are taking cover on tall ledges.
The only difficult monkey to catch in here is Tyrone (Imp), who rests in a ledge at the other side of the bank where the plesiosaur is swimming. To get to him you only need to hop on the dinosaur's back to reach the other side. In further replays of the stage you can also use the Sky Flyer to reach him more easily.
This is one of the few stages you can 100% Complete right from the first playthrough, as you're not required any additional gadgets to catch all the monkeys in the first run of the game.
Specter Coins Locations[]
A Specter Coin is located underneath the platform where Spike starts.
Enemies[]
Time Attack[]
To beat Time Attack you only need to catch 3 Monkeys. One of the most optimum routes to take is catching Shay (B.C), then head for Dr. Monk (Tum Tum) and finally Ah-choo (Sleepy) in that order. To catch Shay it is recommended to attack him with the Magic Punch (If you have it yet) to avoid he escapes to land and wastes your time or just lunge at him with the Super Hoop. In the way to Ah-choo it is also a good idea to defeat the nearby Zookas and collect as many Energy Chips as you can to slow time down.

Trivia[]
- The Plesiosaur (not to be confused with a dinosaur) shares many similarities to Dorrie from Super Mario 64.
- This stage was originally named "Wetlands" in the Pizza Hut Demo.
- The name of the stage refers to the evolutionary concept of Primordial Ooze or Primal Soup, a water mass that is enriched with nutrients and from where primal life forms emerged in the first steps of life on Earth.
