The Mystery Man (謎の男), also called Nazo (謎) is a character in the Ape Escape series and serves as the main antagonist of Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed and the primary antagonist of Ape Escape: Million Monkeys. He is the creator of the Pipotrons, Super Pipotrons, Grid Core, Dark Jake, Dark Specter, and the Neo Pipotrons.

Appearance

The Mystery Man wore a black double breasted suit with golden buttons and a black dress shirt together with a yellow tie. He also wore sunglasses.

Personality

The Mystery Man was much more cruel than Specter. Whenever Specter tries to take over the world, his monkeys are usually goofing around and doing whatever they please. The Mystery Man, on the other hand, wasted no time turning them into competent soldiers armed with guns, tanks, stun clubs and even robots. He treats his own creations, the Neo Pipotrons, like garbage, especially when they failed at their tasks. He also has no problems trying to kill Spike and his friends.

Biography

Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed

The Mystery Man attempts to take over the virtual world in Pumped & Primed. At the end of the High-Tech Tournament, the Pipotrons hand him the disk he desired.

He then creates the Virus-Tech Tournament, where the characters are fighting for their very lives while getting closer to him. Even with them going against the Super Pipotrons, Dark Jake and Dark Specter, Spike and friends reach him (in the form of Grid Core) and defeat him. After his defeat, the virtual world turns back to normal.

Ape Escape: Million Monkeys

The Mystery Man is revealed as the one who started the Pipo Monkey invasion in Ape Escape: Million Monkeys. With the help of Pipotron Krack, they trap Spike, Specter, and co. in a virtual world trap with Virus Charu and a more powerful Grid Core. Spike and Specter destroyed the Grid Core, which stopped his plans of conquering the world with the Pipo Monkeys. He killed Pipotron Krack without care and turned him into a strange purple gel. He attempted to deploy the aliens as a backup plan in order to continue with his objective, but was strangled and electrocuted to death by Pipotron J.

Trivia

• His true name is never revealed during Pumped & Primed or Million Monkeys, and even the official guidebook for Million Monkeys only refers to him as Nazo no Otoko (謎の男), which can literally translates into "Mysterious Man" or "Man of Mystery". Because of this, some fans refers to him as Nazo.
• He's the first and currently only human character to die in the entire series; at least one that's shown on-screen and obvious.
