Moon Base is the 26th level of Ape Escape 2, and the last normal level before facing Specter. The level objective is to defeat Specter.

Description

Moon Base takes place in a space base owned by Specter that sits upon the Moon. Its most prominent feature is the Lethargy Laser, a giant silver canon that sits in the centre of the starting area. The floors are made of what appears to be glass, that lead in multiple banana shaped rooms. When the player is in the outer zones of the base, the Moon, the Earth and some stars can be seen.

  • Han is a reference to Han Solo. His description, "That's no moon!" is a quote from Obi-Wan Kenobi.
  • Chewy is a reference to Chewbacca.
  • Obi Ook Kenobi is a reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi. His description, "Apewalker! Feel, don't think!" is based on a quote from Qui-Gon Jinn.
  • Darth Apester is a reference to Darth Vader.
  • Luke Apewalker is a reference to Luke Skywalker.
  • Boba is a reference to Boba Fett.
  • Lister is found frozen in Carbonite, just like in the iconic scene with Han Solo.

His description, "What do you think you are doing?"/"What are you doing Hikaru?" is similar to one of HAL's quotes from the movie, "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?" This is further supported by the presence of the monkey named Kubrick, who is himself a reference to Stanley Kubrick, the director of 2001.
• Neo is a reference to Neo from The Matrix and his description is based on the famous line "There is no spoon".
• Lister's name may be a reference to Dave Lister from the sci-fi series Red Dwarf.
• Scully, the disbelieving UFO pilot, is likely a reference to Dana Scully from The X-Files, complimenting the Mulder reference from The Blue Baboon.
• Scotty and his description "Still waiting for his beamer" is a reference to Scotty from Star Trek.
• Megamonkey may be a reference to the Mega Man video game series.
• Because the door to the end portion of this level is close to the beginning and is only separated by a large gap in the floor, the player can use a glitch to cross the gap and get them to the Specter fight almost instantly.
