Game Over (ゲームオーバー), refers to a situation in a video game where the player has lost all lives. Many games are also known to show the words "Game Over" on the screen after all lives are lost, and the Ape Escape series is no different.

The most immediate consequence is the loss of unsaved progress at the time the Game Over occurred.

Ape Escape/Ape Escape: On the Loose[]

The player can receive a Game Over when Spike loses all off his lives. When this happens, Spike will be lying on the ground dazed. Another character will then appear on the screen to say something. The Professor and Casi will usually be supportive, Natalie will usually be annoyed, and Jake and Specter will usually taunt Spike for being defeated.

After the Game Over screen, Spike is sent back to the Time Station with the number of lives reset to five.

Ape Escape 2[]

The player can receive a Game Over when Jimmy or Spike loses all of their lives. When this happens, Jimmy will collapse on the ground and then Pipotchi will float down next to him and try to lift his head up, to no avail. A Pipo Monkey then appears and runs around Jimmy, squeaking with glee. The same thing happens when playing as Spike, only without Pipotchi.

Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed[]

Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed doesn't have a game over screen, but the closest to one is if you fail to reach the requirements for the next Tournament Round.

Ape Escape 3[]

The player can receive a Game Over when either Kei or Yumi loses all of their lives. The camera will zoom out to reveal that three Pipo Monkeys were recording their defeat.

Ape Escape: Million Monkeys[]

The player can receive a "Mission Failed" notice, which is similar to a Game Over, when this happens, the player has the choice, to either restart the mission, or "retire" the mission, which takes you to the main menu screen.
