A full row of cookies.

Cookies (Japanese: ビスケット "biscuit") are used as health in the Ape Escape series. The player can usually only hold up to five cookies at a time and depending on the game, will either lose an entire cookie for each hit, or lose part of a cookie.

In Ape Escape and its remake, most forms of damage will inflict one cookie of damage. Falling into a pit causes the player character's instant defeat. Several ways to lose cookies include:

  • Attacks from enemies or monkeys.
  • Environmental hazards.
  • Falling from heights.

In Ape Escape 2 and 3, some forms of damage remove only half a cookie, and falling into a pit now takes away a cookie instead of a life in the first game. There are giant cookies (appearing as chocolate chip cookies) which fully restore the player's health.

Once all five cookies are gone the player will lose a life, or shirt and will have to restart the level from the last continue point. If the player is defeated on their last life, a Game Over occurs.

The cookies appear to be plain wafers/cookies and can be obtained many ways throughout levels:

  1. From enemies.
  2. From the Gotcha Box in Ape Escape 2
  3. Buy them from shops in AE3.
  4. Locating a cookie box in the level.
  5. Boxes, Jars, and other item holders.

There are also very rare cookies that can be found or bought also. A big cookie, which resembles a chocolate chip cookie. It restores every cookie slot on the health bar.

The cookies only appear in the main series games and are vital items needed to survive in the world of Ape Escape.

  • The cookies have the word "Saru" printed on them
