The Ape Escape 2 US Transcript comprises the full verbal transcript of Ape Escape 2 for the PlayStation 2, specifically the US dub. Red and blue message phones are also included, as well as in-game text and Credits.

Notes

  • Character and level names reflect the US dub as shown in-game. Example: The main protagonist is called Jimmy instead of Hikaru, and the minigame is called Monkey Soccer instead of Monkey Football.
  • Spoken dialogue is prioritized over the in-game subtitles, which are often erroneous.
  • In cases where spoken dialogue is not present, typos left in for the sake of accuracy are labeled with [sic].
  • Ape Escape 2 uses colored text to emphasize certain words, usually in red. These are not to be confused with the red text used for broken links on the Wiki. Colored text may not be present on mobile devices.
  • Pre-rendered cutscenes that can be watched from the Movie Theatre at the Travel Station will be referred to as "Movies" because they are labeled as such and have their own names. In-game cutscenes that occur during a level will just be called (Cutscene) in parentheses.

Prologue[]

Movie: "The Beginning"[]

Professor: Can you see me alright? Hm.
Professor: (Ahem) I have a favor to ask you. While I'm away, could you use the Transporter to...? Oh, now where did they get to, anyway? Ah! Eh. Send these newly-designed pants to Monkey Park for me? Would you mind? (grunts) Whoa!
Professor: It's a delicate machine, so be careful not to overload it.
Pipotchi: Pipo!
Jimmy: Natalie! I sent the Professor's stuff ok!
Pipotchi: Pipo!
Natalie: Huh? Uh...? Ah! Jimmy! What are you doing?! You've gone over the weight limit!
Jimmy: Don't worry! The stuff went through fine!
Natalie: No, no, no! B-b-but- I don't- I don't believe this! Pants alone couldn't do that! (sighs) There's just no way!
Jimmy: Look, it arrived fine, Natalie!
Natalie: (groans) Huh? What the-? Monkey helmets-?! No!
Jimmy: See? Everything arrived safe and sound!
Natalie: Oh no! No!
Pipotchi: Pipo!
Jimmy: Isn't it cool? Just like Pipotchi's!
Pipotchi: Ah! Pipo!
Natalie: No, that's not the point! That type of helmet is different from Pipotchi's! It's caused us big problems in the past! When monkeys put those helmets on, they get into all kinds of mischief.
Jimmy: Wow, a white monkey!
Natalie: What?! Specter?! Oh no! It's happening again! Ohhhh!
Jimmy: It doesn't look like he's bothering anyone.
Natalie: Specter is a smart one. We don't know what he might do if he uses his powers to take control over the other monkeys!
Natalie: Oh, what should we do?!
Jimmy: They look like they're having lots of fun!
Natalie: What are you talking about?! You have to get all the monkey helmets back before the Professor returns from his trip!
Jimmy: What? Why me? Uh...
Natalie: Because! You messed things up! Get moving!

Natalie (phone): Gadgets are activated in a variety of different ways.
Natalie (phone): Try rotating and moving the Right Analog Stick in different directions.
Natalie (phone): Right now you have just two gadgets:
Natalie (phone): "the Stun Club"
Natalie (phone): and "the Monkey Net".
Natalie (phone): Use the Stun Club to attack Monkeys and enemies,
Natalie (phone): and also to activate switches and devices.
Natalie (phone): Your Monkey Net is used to catch those cheeky monkeys.
Natalie (phone): To start with the Stun Club is set to the Triangleicon button,
Natalie (phone): and the Monkey Net is set the Xicon button.
Natalie (phone): Each button can be set to switch to a different Gadget. You'll find it very convenient.

Red phone, Jumps:
Natalie (phone): Jimmy! Use the R1 or R2 buttons to jump!
Natalie (phone): Either R1 or R2 buttons can be used so try it!
Natalie (phone): That's it...
Natalie (phone): If you need to hear my advice again,

Natalie (phone): First switch to the Stun Club,
Natalie (phone): then move the Right Analog Stick in the direction you want to strike.

Blue phone, Before Statue:

Natalie (phone): If you press the jump button again while in mid-air, you can do a double jump!
Natalie (phone): Double jumps will help you reach high places.
Natalie (phone): Take notice: the blue message phones like this one won't ring,
Natalie (phone): so while you're still learning the controls, try to hit as many as you can for important advice.

Red phone, Statue's base:
Natalie (phone): See the cookies in the top left of the screen?
Natalie (phone): Each time you are injured these cookies disappear one by one.
Natalie (phone): If you lose all of your cookies, you'll collapse from exhaustion.
Natalie (phone): Nobody wants to see that happen, so keep a full supply!
Natalie (phone): Cookies can be found in the levels, the Gotcha Box or by destroying enemies.


Travel Station (After Liberty Island):
Natalie: Welcome to the Travel Station.
Natalie: This has been our new home since you blasted the lab....
Natalie: I had to build it out of the remains of my own room!
Natalie: Use the warp machine at the front to go and catch monkeys.
Natalie: I've also made a save port -- it's really useful.

Natalie: Anytime you want to have a break, be sure to save your game.

Natalie: Here you can practice using the Gadgets
Natalie: that you've found so far.
Natalie: You'll be an expert monkey catcher in no time.

Natalie: Here you can view the data of captured monkeys,

Natalie: Here you can play the Bonus Games,

Natalie (phone): Use the Stun Club to attack your enemies.
Natalie (phone): Try moving the Right Analog Stick. You'll swing the Stun Club in the direction that you pressed.

Natalie (phone): You can also activate switches with the Stun Club.
Natalie (phone): Try hitting the switch to the left of the telephone.

Red Phone, Crank:
Natalie (phone): You can also perform a spinning slash move with the Stun Club.

Red Phone, Moving Decoys:
Natalie (phone): Now try capturing a monkey decoy that's moving side-to-side.
Natalie (phone): Don't worry, it's not difficult! Just time your swing.

Red Phone, Shield:
Natalie (phone): Now things get more difficult.
Natalie (phone): You can't just walk over and grab that decoy.
Natalie (phone): This is a good simulation of a real monkey.
Natalie (phone): Real monkeys run away when they hear your footsteps.

Natalie (phone): Press the L3 button (that is press the Left Analog Stick in like a button),
Natalie (phone): and you'll lie down on your stomach. While it's still pressed, move the Left Analog Stick to crawl.
Natalie (phone): When you're crawling like this, you will move more stealthily.
Natalie (phone): Even when you're on the ground, you can still swing your Monkey Net.
Natalie (phone): Try capturing those monkey decoys from the crawling position.

Natalie (phone): Swim to the surface of the water and jump to get out.

Red Phone, Monkey Decoy:
Natalie (phone): The Water Net is also used to catch monkeys swimming underwater.

Red Phone, Diving Obstacle:
Natalie (phone): Next, let's try some deep-sea diving.
Natalie (phone): Jump into the water, and push up with the Right Analog Stick. This makes you dive down.
Natalie (phone): Press down with the Right Analog Stick to swim up the surface.
Natalie (phone): Test your diving skills by swimming to the far shore.
Natalie (phone): Watch out though, if you stay underwater too long, you'll run out of air.
Natalie (phone): On the right of the screen you'll see your oxygen gauge. Keep an eye on it while you're submerged.
Natalie (phone): When you start running out of air, you'll need to resurface to take a breath. Is that clear Jimmy?

Blue Phone, Outside of Bullfighting Stadium:
Natalie (phone): You can't use your new Gadgets until you equip them.
Natalie (phone): This is done in the Gadget Select screen.
Natalie (phone): Press the SELECT button to activate the Gadget Select screen. OK so far?

Natalie (phone): The Slingback Shooter is excellent for hitting distant targets.
Natalie (phone): To fire the Slingback Shooter, first press down on the Right Analog Stick,
Natalie (phone): then release to let it snap back.
Natalie (phone): See that switch over there? That's your first target.

Red Phone, Gate:
Natalie (phone): Slingback Shooter pellets are small, this allows you shoot them through very small gaps.
Natalie (phone): See that switch over there?
Natalie (phone): Try using the Slingback Shooter against it and you'll see what I mean.

Red Phone, Pellets:
Natalie (phone): It looks like you've got the hang of the Slingback Shooter now.
Natalie (phone): So try hitting those nasty enemies.
Natalie (phone): Oh yes, and also...
Natalie (phone): In addition to the normal pellets, you can also use explosive and guided pellets.
Natalie (phone): Defeating enemies will often yield special pellets. Each pellet you pick up is worth 1 shot.
Natalie (phone): To switch between the different pellet types, press the R3 button while the Slingback Shooter is equipped.
Natalie (phone): Both types of special pellets are very powerful, so use them sparingly!

Jimmy: Uhh...you see...we accidentally sent the monkey helmets with the pants, and then Specter appeared and started messing around again and...and...uh, what I mean is...it's all a big mess.
Professor: Yes...so that's why that monkey was causing mischief. In that case, we'd better get going! I'll rush back to my laboratory. For now, you just catch as many monkeys as you possibly can.
Jimmy: Sure! I'll do it!

On-Screen Text: The Tomato Bird may be your enemies, but you can use them as a bridge when you step on their backs.

Trivia[]

  • In the Monkey Soccer minigame, Zooka is mislabeled as "Zooker" in the Instructions page, whereas during a match it is called "Zooka".
  • In this game, the Warp Pad is referred to verbally as the "warp machine" and "transporter" by characters. It is only called "Warp Pad" in text at the Travel Station.
  • Light blue monkey pants are referred to as "aqua-blue pants" by Natalie. The phrase "light blue" is never used here. But they are called light blue pants in the first game.
  • For unknown reasons, Traffic Manager Jon Shurkin is excluded from the in-game Credits[1], but he is listed in the manual[2]. In the interest of giving credit where credit is due, both versions of the Credits are combined here.
  • Some of the cast and crew are credited by their birth names instead of their stage names, such as Veronica Taylor and Dan Green. Other names, such as Rachael Lillis, are simply misspelled.[3]
